Overland tour into Tibet itself is far more than interesting. Crossing high desert and driving through over three 5000+meter passes and at the same time visiting Millarepa's cave. Clear view of Mt. Everest is visible from a distance. A 4 nights 5 days staying at the guest houses en-route, another three nights in the mystical Tibetan capital of Lhasa takes you to the palaces of the Dalai Lama, and the finest monasteries and temples. A  breathtaking mountain fiesta flight over the eastern Himalayan range will take you past, Mt. Everest (8848 m), Mt. Makalu (8478 m), Mt. Kanchejunga (8585 m) and a host of other mighty Himalayan peaks finally reaching Kathmandu

You will begin your overland journey from Kathmandu via Zhangmu, Nyalam, Tingri, Xeger, Xigatse, Gyantse and to Lhasa . The distance covered is roughly 1000 km on four-wheel drive vehicles or a coach. The last three days are spent sightseeing in and around Lhasa . Although the road from Kathmandu to Lhasa was opened in 1984, it has not yet been metalled. Since the road is mostly over a mountainous and remote area repairs are difficult and costly and landslides and floods frequently damage major portions, which are usually repaired as soon as possible.

Itinerary :

Day 1: Saturday:
ARRIVE LHASA (3650m)
Fly from Kathmandu , Beijing or Chengdu to Gongar Airport , Lhasa in Tibet .
Upon arrival you will be met by your Tibet Guide and transferred (90 Kms) to Lhasa . Hotel.

Day 2: (Sunday):
LHASA SIGHTSEEING (3650m)
Guided sightseeing tour of Potala, the winter palace of the Dalai Lama; Drepung, the biggest monastic university of Tibet & Nechung Monastery, temple of the State oracle of Tibet . Hotel.

Day 3: (Monday):
LHASA SIGHTSEEING (3650m)
Guided sightseeing tour of Jokhang, the central cathedral of Tibet , Barkhor, the bustling Lhasa market encircling the Jokhang Temple , Tibetan Medical Center & Norbulinka Palace . Hotel.

Day 4: (Tuesday):
LHASA-GYANGTSE (3990m, 350 Kms).
Drive via Yamdrok Tso, the Turquoise Lake , to Gyangtse across Kampa-la (5050 m) & Karo-la (5045 m) passes. Visit Kubum Stupa & Pelkor Chode Monastery. Hotel.

Day 5: (Wednesday):
GYANGTSE-SHALU-SHIGATSE (3860m, 90 Kms).
Drive to Shigatse. En route visit Shalu Monastery. Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of Panchen Lama who is the 2nd in the Tibetan Buddhist religious hierarchy & Shigatse Market. Hotel.

Day 6: (Thursday):
SHIGATSE-SAKYA-SHEGAR (4350m, 232 kms)
Drive to Shegar across Tsou-la pass (4500 m) & Gyatso-la pass (5220 m). En route visit Sakya Monastery. Hotel.

Day 7: (Friday):
SHEGAR-ZHANGMU (2300 m, 160 Kms)
Drive over Lalung-la pass to Zhangmu. En route visit Milarepa Cave . Hotel.

Day 8: (Saturday):
KATHMANDU (125 kms)
Walk across Friendship Bridge to Nepal & transfer to Kathmandu .
